An interview with Rohit Bhoite, the visionary interior designer
In this exclusive interview, we delve into the creative mind of Rohit Bhoite, the visionary interior designer behind the stunning World Tower Residence on the 61st floor in Mumbai.
Working closely with client Subhodh Mehra, Bhoite has masterfully blended subtle luxury with serene aesthetics, creating a tranquil haven amidst the bustling cityscape.
What were the key inspirations for the interior design of the World Tower Residence on the 61st floor?
Rohit Bhoite: The client was relocating from Malabar Hill to the World Tower—an entirely new environment for him. Given that the address was a fresh chapter, he wanted to bring a sense of his heritage and lifestyle into the space.
The design was inspired by this desire to merge the old with the new—integrating personal legacy within a contemporary high-rise setting.
How did you approach the challenge of designing a luxurious space in a high-rise setting?
Rohit Bhoite: Urban environments like Mumbai come with their own set of spatial and atmospheric dynamics.
Our approach always involves grounding the space through nature-inspired tones—greens and browns are a recurring palette. In every project, there’s a signature element: a play of skylight or a distinctive pop of material that becomes a defining feature of the space.
Can you discuss the collaboration process with your client, Subhodh Mehra, and how his preferences influenced the design?
Rohit Bhoite: The client’s vision was deeply rooted in tradition and elegance. He valued craftsmanship and subtle opulence, which led us to explore materials and detailing that echoed regal aesthetics. His preferences were always about refined, understated luxury—never loud, but always present.
What materials and color palettes did you choose for this project, and what do they signify in terms of luxury and tranquility?
Rohit Bhoite: We embraced a palette of rich metals, natural stones, and deep, grounding colors. For instance, the curtain design draws inspiration from intricate palace carvings, adding an element of royal charm.
The ceiling is finished with wallpaper that has a soft curve in detailing—intentionally done to avoid a boxed-in feel and to create a sense of fluidity and calm.

How do you incorporate elements of nature and stillness into your designs, particularly in urban environments like Mumbai?
Rohit Bhoite: Nature is an ever-present influence in our projects. Even in vertical urban living, we bring in earthy browns, lush greens, and soft daylight to create pockets of stillness.
Whether it’s through material selection or the flow of light within a space, we aim to cultivate a grounded, serene atmosphere amidst the city’s chaos.
What specific design features or elements in the World Tower Residence do you believe best embody the concept of subtle luxury?
Rohit Bhoite: Subtle luxury, in this home, lies in its materiality. The use of metal paired with two types of stone speaks volumes.

Details such as the hand-carved curtains, gently curved wall finishes, and wallpapered ceilings all come together to deliver a sense of quiet elegance—where the craftsmanship speaks louder than ornamentation.
What challenges did you face during the design and execution of this project, and how did you overcome them?
Rohit Bhoite: One of the major challenges with modern high-rises like the World Tower is dealing with extensive glazing.
The glass introduces a reflective hue that changes the perception of interior colors—what appears as white can often take on shades of blue or green due to the tint.

We addressed this by meticulously testing materials under different lighting conditions to ensure consistency and intentionality in our color palette.
Rohit Bhoite’s innovative approach to design not only transforms spaces but also enhances the living experience.
The World Tower Residence stands as a testament to his commitment to elegance and tranquility, setting a new standard for luxury living in Mumbai.
