How do you identify and collaborate with artisans across India to bring your designs to life? What is your process for ensuring fair practices and preserving traditional skills?
Preeti Kedia:ย Our journey begins with deep researchโtraveling across artisan clusters, visiting local workshops, and building relationships based on mutual respect.
We work directly with craft communities, bypassing middlemen, which allows us to ensure fair compensation and better working conditions. Every collaboration is a two-way exchange where we co-develop designs that allow their traditional skills to shine in new forms.
What is your creative process like, from conceptualization to the final product? Where do you find inspiration for your collections?
Preeti Kedia:ย Our creative process is immersive and personal. It often begins with a storyโa cultural reference, a travel experience, or a material exploration.
From there, we sketch, experiment with textures, and prototype closely with artisans. We believe inspiration is everywhereโfrom a jaali pattern in a Haveli to a modern art installation.ย
Sustainability and ethical sourcing are becoming increasingly important. How does Pret Homes incorporate these values into its production and business model?
Preeti Kedia:ย Sustainability is not a trend for usโitโs a responsibility. We use natural, locally sourced materials, minimize waste by working in small batches, and prioritize handmade over machine-made.
More than that, by empowering artisans and reviving heritage crafts, we are creating sustainable livelihoods and keeping traditions alive.
