An interview with Mr Nikhil Daga, Director & Chief Technology Officer, Omacme, a manufacturing unit specializing in sofas, chair, dining tables, and other office and institutional furniture
In this exclusive interview, we speak with Mr. Nikhil Daga, Director and Chief Technology Officer of Omacme, a leading manufacturer of high-quality sofas, chairs, dining tables, and institutional furniture.
Mr. Daga shares his insights on innovation, sustainability, and the future of furniture design in a rapidly evolving industry.
Can you share the story behind the founding of Omacme in 1985? What inspired the creation of the brand?
Nikhil Daga: Omacme’s journey began in 1985, born out of a deep commitment to innovation in furniture manufacturing. Back then, India had limited exposure to advanced seating technologies specially in moulded plywood.
My grandfather, driven by a vision to bring global innovations to the Indian market, pioneered the hot-press moulded plywood technology — a breakthrough that laid the foundation for Omacme(then Om ply).
It wasn’t just about making furniture; it was about elevating the standard of seating solutions and entering the core of any chair that is moulded plywood in India with craftsmanship, technology, and a clear focus on comfort and durability.
What were the initial challenges faced by Omacme in the Indian furniture market and how did the company overcome them?
Nikhil Daga: In the early years, the biggest challenge was mindset— convincing the market to adopt newer, technically advanced products over traditional carpentry-made furniture. There was also a lack of awareness about ergonomic seating.
We overcame these hurdles through relentless quality delivery, educating clients, and creating trust over time. Our products slowly became synonymous with reliable performance and value, helping us carve out a strong position in a highly traditional industry.
Omacme is known for transforming the seating furniture industry. What innovations or unique designs have set your products apart from competitors?
Nikhil Daga: Our key innovation was introducing hot-press moulded plywood technology for mass-produced, high-durability seating — something unseen in India at the time. Today, we continue to lead by offering customizable seating solutions with a sharp focus on ergonomics, craftsmanship, and personalization.
We are among the few brands where customers can customize everything — from the structure and fabric to the stitching patterns, wood/metal finishes, and even thread colors, offering them truly bespoke furniture at affordable luxury prices.
How does Omacme ensure that its products cater to the diverse needs of Indian consumers across different regions?
Nikhil Daga: India is a market of rich diversity — not just in tastes but also in ergonomics and lifestyles. At Omacme, we constantly study regional preferences, cultural aesthetics, and usage habits to design products that appeal across the spectrum.
Our wide portfolio — from executive chairs to lounge seating, dining chairs, and work-leisure hybrids — allows us to offer tailored solutions for different environments, ensuring both comfort and style, irrespective of geography.
Sustainability is a growing concern in the furniture industry. What steps is Omacme taking to promote eco-friendly practices?
Nikhil Daga: Sustainability is close to our heart. We have taken multiple steps, including phasing out single-use plastics in our luxury segment packaging, replacing them with reusable woven fabrics and recyclable paper solutions.
Moreover, our products are designed for longevity — reducing the need for frequent replacements and waste generation.
As technology advances, we are also exploring more sustainable raw materials and greener production methods to ensure that Omacme is part of a more responsible future.
How do you see the future of the Indian furniture industry evolving and what role do you envision Omacme playing in that evolution?
Nikhil Daga: The Indian furniture market is entering an exciting phase of rapid digitization, personalization, and sustainability focus. Consumers are now seeking products that reflect their individuality without compromising on comfort and quality.
At Omacme, we are positioned perfectly for this shift. We envision leading this new era by offering hyper-personalized, sustainable, and tech-driven seating solutions — making luxury accessible and meaningful for a wider audience.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the furniture industry?
Nikhil Daga: Stay committed to innovation and deeply understand your consumer. The furniture industry may seem traditional, but opportunities for technology integration, design innovation, and sustainability are immense.
Build a brand that tells a story, delivers real value, and adapts with changing lifestyles. And most importantly, focus on quality— because in furniture, a customer’s loyalty is earned not just with aesthetics, but with how a product feels and performs for years.
Mr. Daga’s vision for Omacme highlights the importance of blending technology with craftsmanship. As the furniture industry continues to evolve, his commitment to quality and sustainability positions Omacme as a frontrunner in creating functional and stylish solutions for modern living and working spaces.
